Job Description:

The Presiding Deputy Returning Officer will assist with all aspects of setting up the Voting Station, ensuring voters are at the appropriate voting location, confirming identification and reviewing the completion of the Voter’s Form 8.  In addition, the Presiding Deputy Returning Officer is responsible for handling the voting process, counting ballots and taking down the voting station. 

Key Accountabilities:

Core Accountabilities

  • Gain enough understanding of the election to be comfortable answering general questions regarding the elections; know when to refer issues to the Returning Officer.
  • Ensure the election processes are executed at the voting station according to election rules.
  • Display a professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use information appropriately, and maintain the confidentiality and security of all election information at voting station.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety Legislation and Rocky View safe work policies and procedures at all times, ensuring the protection and safety of self, co-workers, the public and environment.


Position Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and use of a vehicle (strongly preferred).
  • Attend a training session at the County Office on Thursday October 15, 2013 from 8:30 – 1:00 PM (Lunch of provided).
  • Work Election Day from 9 AM – approximately 10 PM on Monday October 21, 2013.
  • Pick up election materials from County Office on Friday October 18, 2013 .
  • Return Election Day materials to County Office after the election.
  • Approachable, out-going and optimistic; friendly demeanour.
  • Previous election and/or census experience considered an asset.
  • Previous leadership experience considered an asset.
