The typical minimum level of education to perform this job competently is equivalent to high school with specialized training and it would typically require one to three years of related work experience and continuous learning to competently perform this job.  An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.

Job Description: Reporting to the Manager Business Services, the responsibilities include the maintenance and accuracy of the account detail of all Property Tax accounts, billing, collecting, reconciling and posting of the property tax invoices and service fees. Interpreting and applying tax recovery procedures with accurate and precise records. The Tax Representative is also responsible for providing a wide variety of administrative support within taxation; for providing positive public relations by providing excellent front-line customer service in person, by telephone and through written correspondence in response to assessment and tax account inquiries. The tax representative is also responsible for the processing of a high intensity of cash flow within the area and must possess the ability to work in a team environment in conjunction with all financial payments and inquiries.
Key Accountabilities:

Technical Requirements

  • Highly effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong mathematical skills with attention to detail and accuracy of records.
  • Reliability and accuracy of cash management utilizing good accounting procedures.
  • Ability to accurately interpret Government legislation and regulations as well as Municipal Bylaws relating to taxation and assessment.
  • Demonstrate considerable skill of the Municipal Government Act and application of sound accounting practices.
  • Sound ability to oversee & perform the operational functions with regards to Assessment & Tax duties.
  • Ability to adjust effectively from one assignment to another and the ability to withstand continuous interruptions.
  • Must be bondable and possess the ability to process a high intensity of cash.
  • Familiarity with Alberta’s legal survey system and the interpretation of maps and documentation relating to Land Titles.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, good communication and interpersonal skills, be able to demonstrate sound judgment and decision making ability and possess a high degree of stress tolerance.
  • Ability to oversee the taxation workload and deal effectively with the public and ratepayer inquiries.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of basic computer functions (log on, check emails, open and save documents in MS Office Suite) as well as basic keyboarding skills.
