Education/Experience:
  • 3 – 4 years relevant Health and Safety experience.
  • Successful completion of a related diploma/certificate from a recognized post-secondary institute.
Job Description: Reporting to the Corporate Properties Manager, the Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the development, review, evaluation, implementation, maintenance, education and communication of the health and safety program across the organization.
Key Accountabilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the County is informed and advised in order to maintain compliance with required Provincial, and Municipal legislation as well as Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Enhance, improve and implement current and future programs which are required within the HSE program, reporting and investigation; maintain records (provide statistical analysis and trending patterns); formal workplace inspections, emergency response planning; hazard identification, assessment and control; noise management; respiratory health management; and driver evaluation and training.
  • Develop, review and maintain safety policies. Support and assist departmental managers, team leads and employees in implementing effective health and safety management programs.
  • Analyze risk to the safety of employees and determine appropriate preventative measures, including provisions of required safety equipment, and administrative practices.
  • Facilitate the standardization of safe work practices, safety equipment, personal protective equipment and training.
  • Provide advice on appropriate preventative measures regarding training, provision of required safety equipment, and administrative practices.
  • Ensure all elements of the Certificate of Recognition (COR) are managed to maintain certification.
  • Coordinate environmental and ergonomic assessments as required.
  • Maintain and review related response programs (e.g., ERP).
  • Collaborate with Employee Services on all return to work and modification requests for WCB, STD and LTD.
  • Conduct Health & Safety orientation and training of employee members.
  • Liaise with external occupational health and safety, corporate properties and contractors/vendors when necessary.

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • 3 – 4 years relevant Health and Safety experience.
  • Successful completion of a related diploma/certificate from a recognized post-secondary institute.
  • Knowledge of COR requirements, Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation and WCB requirements.
  • Manage and deliver quality health and safety programs to diverse groups across the organization.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service, organizational, prioritizing, time management skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Well-developed communication and interpretation skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Possess a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license.
