  • A minimum of five years progressively responsible payroll, and pension experience in a computerized environment.
  • Must have completed a minimum of Level 1 of the Payroll Management Certificate program sponsored by the Canadian Payroll Association and Employee Benefits (CEBS).
Job Description:

Reporting to the Corporate Support Services (CSS) Manager, this position is responsible for the administration of our Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP), Group benefit plan, short and long term disability and Workers’ Compensation.  As well, this position will be the primary backup and support for all payroll responsibilities.  

Key Accountabilities:

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work cooperatively with all employees to respond to all pension (LAPP), Group benefits, WCB and payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Process new hires, terminations and all other personnel changes as required by internal policy and service providers.     
  • Maintain benefits carrier account requirements; municipal/federal accounts and records; and process according to established guidelines.
  • Reconcile benefit and pension statements and invoices on a monthly and annual basis. 
  • Communicate benefit programs and changes to employees on a monthly basis through various information mediums.  
  • Responsible to ensure that corporate benefit policies and written procedures are reviewed on an annual basis and are up dated on as needed basis.  
  • Ensure all pertinent information is communicated to CSS Manager in a timely and confidential manner.
  • Provide backup and support for all payroll responsibilities as required.
  • Ensure all benefit and payroll processes are in compliance with legislative updates and regulations. 

 Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Knowledge and experience with the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) is desired.
  • Experience in a municipal or local government environment is an asset.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of basic computer functions (log on, check emails, open and save documents in MS Office Suite) as well as basic keyboarding skills and proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Avanti payroll system, preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, both one-on-one and in group situations.
  • Superior organizational, prioritizing and time management skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Display enthusiasm, a “can-do” attitude, and ability to follow through and produce results.
