  • Hold a high school diploma.
  • Minimum of five years continuous grader operating experience as well as experience on the following equipment: front-end loader, track hoe, skid steer loader (with multiple attachments), tracked mulching machine, dozer, scraper, farm tractors and implements, smooth drum and sheep foot packers.
Job Description: The Equipment Operator will competently operate a variety of heavy equipment (tandem axle truck, grader, front-end loader, track hoe, skid steer loader with multiple attachments), tracked mulching machine and dozer to support road maintenance initiatives throughout the County, and comply with safe work practices, procedures and legislation at all times.
Key Accountabilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate various equipment as assigned in a safe, efficient and effective manner to include but not limited to:
    • Operating grader performing gravel patching and/or regular gravel road maintenance, road rehabilitation and asphalt repairs.
    • Loading and unloading equipment for trailer transportation to and from job sites. 
    • Operating backhoe to dig trenches for drainage ditches and culvert installations, or perform dig-outs for road repairs.
    • Perform snow plowing during winter months. 
  • Perform daily pre- and post-operation equipment checks to include:
    • Ensuring equipment is in proper operating condition.
    • Identifying and reporting equipment deficiencies.  
    • Logging and reporting mileage and quantities hauled.
  • Perform general labour as assigned to include, but not limited to:
    • Culvert installations and steam out of frozen culverts (as necessary).
    • Snow fence installations and or removals.
    • Hot and cold patching of roads.
    • Brushing rights-of-ways. 
    • Remove debris, litter and road kill from ditches and roadsides. 
  • Provide superior customer service to both internal and external clients.
  • Participate in and contribute to safety meetings and job hazard assessment reviews.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Be physically able to perform demanding tasks including: bending, shovelling, heavy lifting up to 40 lbs, and operating equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstrate and execute safe and skilful operation of equipment at all times.
  • Experience operating asphalt paving equipment considered an asset.
  • Hold a valid Class 1 or 3Q vehicle operator’s permit (you will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment).
