Position Title: Municipal Lands Park Technician - Seasonal Position

Education/Experience:
  • Successful completion or current enrolment in a post secondary Geography, GIS, Environmental Science or Planning program.
  • Proficiency in GIS (ESRI products), database management and Microsoft Suite (Access is essential).
Job Description: The Municipal Lands Park Technician is responsible for providing Municipal Lands Staff with technical support pertaining to parks and open space planning and development, County Land administration and coordination of County Land maintenance
Key Accountabilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site visits and inspections of County Lands.
  • Update Municipal Lands databases including: infrastructure, trails/pathways, County Lands, and site amenities.
  • Update GIS databases and produce maps for internal and external purposes.
  • Provide file maintenance support for various databases.
  • Assist Municipal Lands staff with research, mapping, public and Council requests as required.   
  • Prepare reports as assigned.
  • Maintain a project logbook.
  • Prepare and facilitate the execution of Municipal Lands specific Agreements.
  • Assist in preparation of Maintenance Plans and Service Guidelines for parks and open spaces.
  • All other duties as assigned. 

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Familiarity with the Municipal Government Act is an asset.
  • Previous field experience is required. 
  • Must be comfortable operating an all-terrain bicycle on and off pavement.
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Act as a team player, able to work with and without direct supervision.
  • Display superior customer service attitude towards internal and external customers. 
  • Exercise independent judgment to maintain quality standards.
  • Display courtesy, tact, a customer service attitude, and a desire to represent Rocky View in a professional manner at all times. 
  • Wear and use required personal safety equipment; supply own CSA approved footwear.
  • Hold a valid Class 5 vehicle operator’s permit (you will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment).
