Job Description: An exciting opportunity for a Planner with a progressive, local, rural government has become available.  Reporting to the Planning and Development Manager, the Senior Planner will be involved with development and/or implementation of planning strategies and County policy, and will have opportunities to delve into varied and challenging projects.

Key Accountabilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review various County policy plans.
  • Formulate, review, maintain, update and implement strategic and policy documents/programs such as, the Growth Management Strategy, the Municipal Development Plan, Intermunicipal Development Plan(s), Area Structure Plan(s), and Area Redevelopment Plan(s).
  • Take a lead or assist in assigned role as required to formulate, review, maintain, update and implement the Land Use Bylaw.
  • Liaise between Rocky View County, neighbouring municipalities and the Province on issues of common concern and commenting on Intermunicipal/inter-jurisdictional referrals.
  • Prepare, review, update and administer research, grant proposals, consultation processes, consultant contracts, research, and feasibility analyses.
  • Prepare recommendations and reports and present to Council, various boards and committees.
  • Collaborate and engage with various agencies and communities by providing technically sound planning advice.
  • Act as a mentor for junior planners.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to the community.
  • All other duties as assigned. 

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Strong leadership and decision making skills; business/technical writing, coaching and mentoring abilities.
  • Capable of providing superior customer service, leading by example and creating a culture of excellence.
  • Superior organizational, prioritizing and time management skills.
  • Display enthusiasm, a “can-do” attitude, and the ability to follow through and produce results.
  • Eligible for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • Possess a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license to conduct Rocky View County business.
